As a child therapist, I understand how to explain big emotions to children and teens without them feeling bad or damaged. I also know that for children art and creativity is a great way for them to be able to express themselves and engage in the therapeutic process. Some mental health issues that I can work with your child on are:
We sometimes believe that childhood is a time of ease and fun and forget that a child could be struggling with mental health issues. But in today’s world children are facing more stress than we realise.
The demanding academic environment, bullying, unspoken anxiety and their inability to communicate their feelings to adults are all causes of stress for a child. And unfortunately, many people dismiss mental illness as bad behaviour, moodiness and normal childhood challenges.
Children are vulnerable to nearly every affliction adults face. Child therapy involves behavioural assessments and therapeutic interventions to uncover the underlying causes of challenging behaviour. For some children it can be hard to express their feelings in words, this is where my art therapy sessions for children can make a big difference in creating a safe space for a child or teen to open up.
As a therapist, I understand that all behaviour has meaning. I work closely with those involved in the child’s life to identify any triggers and factors that cause or aggravate certain behaviours. As a result, I am able to help children reach their full potential for happiness.
